The Canon EOS R5! The only camera you'll need for the next 10 years?

By Damion Fivenson

Ever since the Canon 5D Mark 2, we’ve craved innovation from the Japanese company. Every year we go into announcements with high anticipation, but the very minimum expectations are never met leaving us jumping over to other platforms. For the most part every one of us who left the Canon Shooter title behind kept our ears waiting to hear the sleeping giant to roar awake. Today Canon announced some detail that has finally given us something to make us finally come back.

The Canon 5D Mark 2 which was released in November of 2008 was the last time we had this much hype behind a camera and for pretty much the same reasons. The Canon EOS R5 bring a plethora of video specs with no limitations that will change and influence the landscape of what future cameras can do.

Sony over the past few years has been banking on Canons’ misfortune and their inability to innovate by doing just that—innovating. Sony has taken a large chuck in the market by providing things such as IBIS, EVF, etc. Now that Canon has finally woken up, we’ll have to see what Sony does.

Canon specs in the current market that are unparalleled such as:

  • NEW Image Sensor & Processor

  • Up to 12fps Mechanical Shutter

  • Up to 20fps Silent Shutter

  • 8K RAW / 4K 120P

  • In-Body Image Stabilization

  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF

  • Dual Card Slots

  • FREE image.canon Cloud Service

Canon is still to announce a release date, but we may see it as soon as next month May 2020. Will Aperture be getting one? You bet cha!
